  1. Question on clarifying a comment in the paper by Gliedt et al.

    Dana Lawrence, Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research

    4 February 2015

    Dear Editor: I am seeking a modest clarification related to the paper by Gliedt et al on chiropractic identity, role and future. (Gliedt JA, Hawk C, Anderson M et al. Chiropractic identify, role and future: a survey of North American chiropractic students. Chiropr Man Ther 2015;23:4) In that paper, the authors state “Logan University’s Survey Monkey Platinum account ensured HIPAA compliance at the highest level to all survey participants.” Since the authors were surveying students from a variety of chiropractic colleges, I do not believe that HIPAA (Health Insurance Privacy and Accountability Act) is actually an issue; there is no protected health information involved. I wonder, did they mean FRPA (Federal Respect for Privacy Act) instead? This would make much more sense since the survey would involve having access to student information in order to contact them.

    I would be grateful for this clarification.

  2. Erratum: Chiropractic identity, role, and future: a survey of North American chiropractic students. An erratum

    Jordan Gliedt, Logan University College of Chiropractic

    Dear Reader;

    In the Sample Population section of the Methods, Life University should be listed as one of the participating institutions. The authors apologize for this inadvertent omission.

    Sincerely,

    Jordan A. Gliedt

    Dear Dr. Lawrence;

    Thank you for your comments and inquiry regarding our study. Your belief that HIPAA (Health Insurance Privacy and Accountability Act) is not actually an issue in this study because there is no protected health information involved is correct. HIPAA does not apply to this survey sample. We included it simply as part of the description of the Survey Monkey account we used.

    Sincerely,

    Jordan A. Gliedt
