   • "Appropriateness" of treatment

   • Availability of alternative treatments

   • Cost of treatment

   • Effectiveness (actual or potential) of treatment

   • Lessen the effects of injury

   • Cure the injury

   • Alleviate the symptoms of injury

   • Retard progressive deterioration
